These pex tools are great! The crimper is easy to use, with a ratcheting mechanism and long handles that provide plenty of mechanical advantage. Crimping is super easy - and they can be set up to easily cut off a crimped pex connector as well. I tested it both ways, and was surprised by how easy both operations are. The cutters are also very easy to use, with a super-sharp blade that cuts right through pex like a hot knife through butter. I have a few plumbing projects coming up, and I'm really glad I found these. Great tools!

PEX crimp rings during installation or secure fastening featuring red for plumbing, conduit, or equipment work

I added an instant hot water line to my existing plumbing. I already own a PEX crimper for copper crimp rings, but some of the connections were in cramped areas and I couldn't get my crimper between the floor joists. This tool has shorter levers and I was able to access those more easily. I really appreciated the ledge below the jaws that helped hold the crimp ring and tool in position. The included tubing cutter made straight, burr-free cuts that were ready to install with no further prep.

Cable clamps during installation or secure fastening featuring white; valves, filter housings

The 3/4" clamp works great for most hose repairs. The tool fits the clamp nice and snug. The seller does an excellent job of visually describing this tool and how it functions. If I might add the images are extremely well done. I show here how it worked for my hose and coupler. It was a tight squeeze but it did work.

How to use PEX crimp tool in a product detail image featuring black for plumbing, conduit, or equipment work

No complaints. First time out I verified calibration and went for it. Crimped multiple 3/4in off-brand and SharkBite clamps, cut a few off, and never had an issue with either feature. Zero leaks. Very happy with purchase.

PEX crimp rings during installation or secure fastening featuring brass and silver and red; brass fitting

This is a solid tool that combines two tools into one, the pipe cutter is an added bonus giving you the tools needed to do a PEX plumbing job. The tool is well constructed and should last a person many years of service before needing replaced. I recommend this product.

FAQ

PEX crimp rings vs cinch clamps vs expansion: which should I choose for a home repair?

Start with the joining methods approved for your existing tubing and fittings. Stainless steel cinch clamps use a clamp tool that may cover several tubing sizes. Copper crimp rings require size-matched crimping jaws. Both work with compatible crimp-style insert fittings. Expansion connections require approved tubing, expansion fittings, reinforcing rings and a PEX expansion tool—not a cinch tool.

Once compatibility is confirmed, compare tool clearance, the equipment you already own and access for future repairs. Do not change connection systems solely because a different tool costs less.

Which PEX tool should I buy for a small DIY plumbing project?

Choose the tool that covers your actual connection type and tubing sizes—not the kit with the most pieces. A PEX cinch tool can simplify purchases when its supported range covers several clamp sizes. A copper-ring crimper needs matching jaws, while an expansion system requires its own expander and heads.

Compare the total cost of the tool, cutter, fittings, rings, required gauges and removal tools. Before buying a PEX crimping tool kit, check which connection method it supports and which sizes are supplied; the included ring sizes may not cover the tool’s full operating range.

How do I install PEX cinch clamps and confirm they are fully closed?

Use a compatible, correctly calibrated PEX pinch clamp tool—not ordinary pliers or a copper-ring-only crimper. Cut the tubing square, fully insert the fitting and position the ring according to the system’s instructions. Engage the raised ear and complete the tool’s specified closing cycle.

Check the required completion indicator and inspect the closed ear. A ratchet release alone does not prove the entire connection is leak-free. Verify the installation and pressure-test the system as instructed before concealing it. PEX clamp rings must match the tubing, fitting and tool throughout this process.

Can I use cinch clamps on 1/2-inch PEX-A tubing that currently has copper rings?

Possibly—PEX-A does not automatically mean expansion-only. Some PEX-A tubing is approved for crimp-and-clamp connections. Identify the pipe manufacturer, nominal size and existing fitting design before choosing replacement PEX clamps.

ASTM F876 identifies a tubing specification; it does not by itself approve every joining method. Confirm that the tubing manufacturer permits the relevant ASTM F1807 metal or F2159 plastic insert fittings with ASTM F2098 clamps. Do not substitute cinch clamps for reinforcing rings on expansion PEX fittings. A copper-colored ring alone is not sufficient identification of the existing system.

How do I choose a PEX crimp tool for tight spaces?

Check jaw access and the complete handle movement—not just the tool’s overall length. Copper-ring crimping jaws must surround the ring, while a PEX clamp tool grips the raised ear of a cinch clamp. That difference may make a cinch tool easier to position in some confined locations, but it does not guarantee access everywhere.

Before assembly, confirm that the jaws can sit correctly and the handles can complete their closing cycle without hitting a stud, wall or appliance. If clearance is insufficient, create access or use another system-approved tool rather than making a partial or angled closure.

Can choosing PEX cinch clamps affect the warranty or inspection requirements?

Yes, depending on the manufacturer’s written terms and the complete product combination. Before buying PEX cinch clamps, check the tubing and fitting manufacturers’ approved joining methods, component requirements and warranty exclusions. Coverage may differ between a complete branded system and an installation that mixes components. There is no single warranty period that applies to every cinch-clamp installation.

Also confirm the accepted joining method, testing and inspection requirements with your local plumbing authority before concealing connections. Keep product identification, purchase records and installation documentation rather than relying on forum claims about warranty coverage.

How do I remove a misplaced or leaking cinch clamp and remake the connection?

Shut off the water and depressurize the line before removal. Use a compatible PEX clamp removal tool, taking care not to damage the fitting. Removed PEX clamp rings must be replaced, not reopened and reused. The tubing may remain tightly attached to the fitting’s barbs after the clamp is removed.

Cut back to sound tubing when the end is damaged, permanently deformed or cannot be removed safely. Reuse a fitting only if it remains undamaged and its manufacturer permits reuse. Add compatible tubing and a coupling if needed to restore the connection without strain, then remake and test the joint.

Do PEX cinch clamps hold up, and why is my PEX leaking at fittings after installation?

Properly specified and installed PEX cinch clamps are an established connection method; a failed test requires checking the whole assembly. ASTM F2098 evaluates clamps as part of tubing-and-fitting assemblies, not as isolated rings.

Check component compatibility, clamp size and condition, tubing preparation, insertion depth and ring position. Then verify that the tool is calibrated, undamaged and completing its prescribed closing cycle. Repeated failures warrant stopping to check these shared factors—not simply squeezing every clamp again. Replace defective connections and repeat the required pressure test before closing walls. A few failed joints cannot, by themselves, identify whether the rings, tool or installation caused the problem.
