Measure the hose’s outside diameter with it fully installed on the new fitting. Replacing either component can change the diameter that the clamp needs to fit.

Compare hose clamp sizes using the manufacturer’s minimum–maximum adjustment ranges or hose clamp size chart. Do not choose solely by the hose’s nominal inside diameter or the old clamp’s size number. The replacement must open enough for installation and tighten within its specified working range. Choose the next suitable range—not simply the next size label.

A clamp cannot reliably compensate for melted, swollen or permanently deformed components. Replace damaged parts before attempting to reseal the connection.

A worm gear hose clamp supplies clamping force; it cannot restore a damaged hose wall or misshapen sealing surface. Let the system cool and release pressure according to the equipment’s service procedure before inspection. Check the hose’s temperature suitability and routing near heat sources so the replacement does not suffer the same damage. Tightening harder is not a repair for thermal damage.

Select small diameter hose clamps using the hose’s outside diameter over the barb, checking the minimum as well as maximum clamping diameter. A clamp that reaches its minimum size before gripping the hose is unsuitable, even if it slides over the connection easily.

Shut off the gas supply and safely release pressure before changing parts. Verify hose-to-barb compatibility and the complete connection’s suitability for the gas and operating pressure. A smaller clamp alone does not establish safe retention. Follow the equipment’s specified connection method and leak-test procedure before returning it to service.

Create safe access before attempting removal. Shut down the equipment, allow it to cool and release trapped pressure according to its service instructions.

Use a hose clamp removal tool designed for the ear clamp’s material and dimensions. If the cutter cannot reach safely, expose or remove the assembly following the service procedure rather than cutting blindly. Replace the cut clamp with a new, suitable one.

Where a screw-adjusted replacement is permitted, position its screw so a screwdriver or nut driver can reach it during future maintenance.

Only use a replacement design that meets the equipment’s connection requirements. A screw-type hose clamp can be adjusted with a compatible screwdriver or nut driver, but that convenience does not make it interchangeable with every pinch hose clamp.

Check the diameter range, band width, hose material, operating conditions and available clearance. For soft tubing, select a band design suitable for that material. When substitution is not confirmed, use the specified clamp and installation tool rather than choosing by tool cost alone.

Check the complete connection before adding a gasket or tightening the clamp further. For a flexible drain coupling, confirm that the sleeve fits both pipe outside diameters, the pipe ends are clean and properly inserted, and the pipes are supported without pulling the joint out of alignment.

Inspect the sleeve and any specified sealing parts for damage. Whether a separate gasket is needed depends on the connector’s design—check its parts diagram rather than adding an improvised washer. Reassemble and tighten according to that coupling’s instructions; a different clamp cannot correct an unsuitable coupling.
